Visitor

Had a trip out to a student's home which tested my cultural perseverance.  Standing tickets on the train and just awkwardness at his home around large crowds all day.  Sometimes there's just too many new faces and as foreigner it's always "showtime." However, there were some highlights as well.
We hiked up a "mountain" which was about half the size of the Old Baldy sand dune in Pentwater.  They use something in the sap so there are marks on the trees like this one.  This was the first time I really realized how clean the air is out away from the city.  I used to think it was just the smell of the greenery but it was so fresh and so clean, clean!  Running around up there really made me think of home. It's really hard to get out into nature.  It was a little strange because I didn't realize how much I missed being out in the woods and conquering a hill; even a small one.

The Four of us high atop mount Olympus! These are two cousins that live in the same town.  We had a race down the hill after this picture which was fun.  I need to get out more!

We took another walk out into the mountains and found a natural stream that they say is good for drinking.  Don't worry, the Chinese are more paranoid about fresh water than visiting foreigners.  The water comes from a spring in the mountain rock. I used my hands in case Gideon was watching.

Hey man! Looks like life is going alright. Maggie is always admiring how many trees we have here even in the developed areas. I forgot how much I missed them.

We think about you often and miss you. I haven't had a b-ball game since I left and boy do I miss it.
