Funny things in China

1) Wes and I went into town today and took a taxi. First of all, I've never taken a taxi in America. Second, across the street from the campus gate the driver stopped the car, ran to the nearest wall, and relieved himself. The meter was running the whole time.

2) I saw the second taxi in about two weeks with its bumper hanging out of the trunk. Are detached bumpers a common problem?

3) Jev met a guy named "Ouch" at the guitar store who likes punk music.

4) We have droves of new trees on our campus but they are all cut off on the top. Students tell me that they cut the trees to keep the water in the trees. Counter-productive?

5) When it rains it pours. The monsoon season is here and when everybody brings out their umbrellas it reminds me of Easter eggs with all the pastel colors.

6) We would like to have a campfire but have trouble finding a good place to do it. Campfires are rare and not understood. Outdoors survival is probably too close to reality to be enjoyed as a past-time for most. Just a guess, I might be way off but a life of modern convenience seems to be much preferred. Improvisation has led us to candles and Smores in my apartment.

7) Watching students make Rottschafer Rolls. I was able to get back over to ECIT's campus last weekend and spend some time with my awesome students from last year.
