One Shoe, 4 guys, Southern Capital

I went to play basketball last weekend at ECIT where I taught last year and had a great time seeing students. However when I returned I found that I only had one of my shoes. So it was either stolen or I dropped it. I don't know who would want just one shoe so I must have dropped it out of my bag somehow. Frustrating. So today I went to the city with one of Becca's students and bought some new ones. I'm excited to play again!
This weekend the male presence in our team will increase 13.3%! Becca and Nancy have (or get to!) to go to Hong Kong because of some visa mix up with the school.

So I'll be less outnumbered for a few days but it's not really good news since we spend a lot of time together. This may force me to spend more time with the language school guys here which would be great and very much needed. The other night I was noticing -along with the girls as they were teasing me- how often I zone out of conversations! They were making fun of me for not listening and I barely noticed. About 10 seconds later they did it again and I didn't catch it. It was pretty funny. It's a delicate balance though. I really enjoy this team and it's easy to be with them which is such a bonus.

There are 4 American guys learning language ("language school") at the same university that I am teaching at but they live 25-40 minutes away depending on traffic and the time that it takes for a bus to show up when you get to the bus stop. I don't see them a lot but I do see them for several short times in a week. Sometimes for lunch they will stop by and if I don't have a meeting we can talk but it is really rare that we see a lot of each other. One of the guys was my teammate and roommate last year at ECIT. Another of the guys was about 25 minutes away from ECIT last yearr and we spent a lot of time together on weekends since our teams got along really well.

In other news I'll hopefully be going to Nanjing for the October holiday to help with some childcare for two days for a group that is getting together in Nanjing. They'll cover the cost for the trip one way and I'll help out for two days. Nanjing is a very historic city. It's recent history is, of course, very dark. Nanjing means "Southern Capital" as opposed to Beijing which means "Northern Capital". It was the Capital during some of China's history. I'm excited to see what we'll learn while traveling there.
